Driving in Denton

Denton sits at the top of the metroplex where Interstate 35E and Interstate 35W split, with US 380 running east and west and Loop 288 wrapping the retail. Two universities put roughly 55,000 students on those roads during the semester.

The corridor that carries most of it: the Interstate 35E and Interstate 35W split at US 380.

Why Denton Crashes Happen Where They Do

The Interstate 35 split at the north end of Denton is the defining feature: through traffic chooses between the E and W legs under time pressure while local traffic tries to reach the University Drive and Loop 288 exits. US 380, University Drive, carries the east-west commute through the retail corridor with signals every few hundred feet. Around the Square and the UNT and TWU campuses the pattern changes completely to low-speed angle and backing crashes with pedestrians in the mix. Mayhill Road and Bonnie Brae Street carry the rest.

What Denton Drivers Should Know

  • Your insurer can recommend a shop. It cannot require one. That right is in Texas Insurance Code 1952.301.
  • If the other driver caused it, their insurance pays for the repair.
  • On a small repair, paying yourself can cost less than a claim. Get the free estimate first, then decide.
  • Not-at-fault claims usually do not touch your rate. At-fault claims usually do, and that call belongs to your insurer, not to us.
